On Nov. 8, 2021, the City Council adopted the Plano Comprehensive Plan 2021, a long-range plan guiding the future growth, priorities, services, development and redevelopment of the city. The Comprehensive Plan 2021 will be in effect for all zoning petitions filed Nov. 9, 2021 or later. To view the plan online, visit planocompplan.org.

The Plano Tomorrow Plan was adopted by City Council on October 12, 2015. In 2019, the City Council appointed a Comprehensive Plan Review Committee to review the city’s Comprehensive Plan and recommend updates to address community concerns. From Aug. 6, 2020 to Nov. 8, 2021, while the comprehensive plan was under review, an interim plan (1986-based Comprehensive Plan) was in effect.
The Plano Tomorrow Plan will remain in effect for active zoning cases submitted on or prior to August 5, 2020.  For zoning petitions filed between Aug. 6, 2020 and Nov. 8, 2021, the interim plan is in effect.

The Comprehensive Plan is a long-range plan guiding the future growth, priorities, services, development, and redevelopment of our city. Plano Tomorrow is a general framework that focuses on fulfilling the community vision of "a global leader, excelling in exceptional education, abounding with world class businesses, and vibrant neighborhoods". The plan builds on the foundation of the city's past and creates a future of excellence by reinforcing the community's current strengths and addressing opportunities for change.
