2017 National Planning Excellence Award

The Plano Tomorrow Plan received the 2017 Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan, which is awarded to one comprehensive plan in the nation each year. The Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan is given for a group achievement by a planning agency, planning team or firm, community group or local authority that advances the science and art of planning. The award is named for Daniel Burnham whose professional contributions to the planning profession helped create greater awareness of the benefits of good planning. APA’s national awards program – the profession’s highest honor – is a proud tradition established more than 50 years ago to recognize outstanding community plans, planning programs and initiatives, public education efforts and individuals for their leadership on planning issues. “Plano Tomorrow’s innovative, web-based approach provided a platform for residents and stakeholders to play a meaningful role in creating a new vision for the city,” said W. Shedrick Coleman, AIA, Chair of APA’s 2017 National Planning Awards Jury. “The transparency of the plan’s creation and its engagement efforts are a national model for other communities to follow.” 
National Comprehensive Plan Recognition

2016 National Silver Level Recognized Plan

The Plano Tomorrow Plan received national recognition from the American Planning Association's Comprehensive Plan Standards for Sustaining Places Recognition Program. Plano Tomorrow was one of eight
 comprehensive plans selected nationwide for the American Planning Association's new pilot program and is the first to receive recognition in Texas. The 2016 honored plans incorporate principles for creating livable, healthy communities in harmony with nature that have resilient economies, social equity, and strong regional ties.The Silver Level recognition was the highest level awarded this year to a community. Texas Chapter Award

2016 Texas Comprehensive Plan Award

The Plano Tomorrow Plan received the American Planning Association's Texas Chapter Comprehensive Plan Award for 2016. The plan was chosen by the APA-Texas Chapter Awards Committee, which is made up of nine representatives from across the state. On November 4, 2016, the city received recognition for this award at the Texas APA Annual Conference held in San Antonio, TX. The awards program promotes the work of planners in Texas by recognized exemplary work in the state. The Planning Department also received the Texas Planning Excellence recognition for the third consecutive year.
